Whitebridge Medical Centre has been a trusted healthcare business in Newcastle for over 40 years, blending traditional general practice with a forward-thinking, customer-centric ethos. In today’s healthcare landscape, patients expect more than just care. They want to understand and use personal health data, access test results as needed, and actively participate in their own wellbeing management.

Dr Max Mollenkopf, Practice Owner and General Practitioner at Whitebridge Medical Centre recognised this shift and understood that providing access wasn’t just a convenience, it was essential. Whitebridge Medical Centre, which uses MediRecords as its electronic health record and practice management system, became one of the first test sites for MediRecords’ Engage patient portal.

By logging in to Engage, patients can securely view test results, clinical documents, correspondence, and next-step tasks such as reminders to book vaccinations, assessments, or follow-up appointments. This gives patients more of their health information while helping clinicians deliver patient-centred care.

The impact has been clear. Even in this early phase of the portal’s use, patients at Whitebridge are taking initiative, following through on care plans, staying on top of appointments, and feeling more connected to their health. For the practice, fewer phone calls and administrative follow-ups, and greater transparency are deepening trust between patients and their GPs.

It’s a great platform. It’s been incredibly popular among patients. People love owning their data, being a part of their data, and feeling like they can see things happening around them and keep track of it themselves, rather than constantly bouncing ideas off the clinic and calling back all the time. They can see what’s happening with their care—and that’s really important.”

Dr Max Mollenkopf, CEO, Whitebridge Medical Centre

In a special feature on the Talking HealthTech podcast, Dr Max Mollenkopf joined MediRecords’ Chief Product Officer, Jayne Thompson, to explore how giving patients access to personal health records can redefine the GP–patient relationship and build patient empowerment. Hosted by Peter Birch, the conversation highlighted the shift from static records to proactive care. It also covered the ways MediRecords Engage is streamlining workflows and delivering continuity of care, along with the growing role of AI in supporting clinicians.

During the podcast, Dr Max shared a recent example of a patient who needed urgent hospital care while travelling, and how MediRecords Engage helped facilitate it :

“She pulled out her [Engage] portal, she showed the emergency team what her creatinine was doing, what her sodium was doing. She could show them the list of all the medications, and the referral letter I’d written to the transplant team with her background data… it was really streamlined and really simple.”

Whitebridge is also an early adopter of MediRecords’ AI capabilities, including integrated scribing tools and our AI-powered patient summary. These innovations condense lengthy records into clear, concise snapshots, highlighting recent results and correspondence. This frees up clinicians to focus on interaction with clients, rather than being derailed by administrative tasks. Combined with Engage, these features mean practice customers can easily be added to information flows about results and next steps in managing their health.

For Whitebridge patients, the benefits are already tangible. Whether traveling and needing instant access to medication lists and medical history, or managing chronic conditions with clarity and confidence, the MediRecords Engage portal is making a real difference. It’s more than a tech upgrade, it’s a smarter, more patient-focused way to deliver care.
